Professor Ziyuan Ouyang- On the QTT Project with Great Expectations
Location:Home>News Highlights

On 13 June 2017, Professor Ziyuan Ouyang, Chief Scientist of the Chinese Lunar Exploration Program and Chinese Professor of Cosmochemistry and Geochemistry, visited XAO. Professor Ziyuan Ouyang has been honored as the “Father of Chang’e Program”.

During the visit, Professor Ziyuan Ouyang showed concerns for the construction of the 110-m aperture fully steerable radio telescope (QTT) project. He wishes the project success and finishes ahead of schedule and serves the needs for development of China. QTT is located in the Qitai county, Xinjiang, where the combination of the unique observing environment and excellent geographical location improves significantly on the measuring accuracy of the Chinese VLBI network (CVN). When the project finishes, QTT will become the world’s largest fully steerable radio telescope that is capable of capturing and tracking signals from spacecrafts at the edge of the solar system and probing deeper into space.

Professor Ziyuan Ouyang said that QTT will be one of the most important scientific facilities in China, which will enable XAO to make more contribution to the civil space exploration programs.

In the afternoon of that day, professor Ziyuan Ouyang delivered a speech on “Lunar exploration dream of China”, in which he said that we should relied on our own strength, self-dependent innovations, persistence and determination for the mission of lunar exploration.
