On May 9, 2017, Xiang Libin, vice president of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), together with leaders of relevant departments, visited Nanshan Base of Xinjiang Astronomical Observatory.
During this visit, a colloquium was held at which our researchers reported on the status of 110-m aperture fully steerable radio telescope (QTT) construction. Vice president Xiang Libin encouraged the staff of XAO to make full use of the existing advantages, expedite the construction of 110m radio telescope to build it as a comprehensive astronomical research platform, and create vaster space for scientific and technological developments.
Meanwhile, he emphasized that we should “go all out” on the construction of QTT project – a facility that will attract numerous excellent scientific researchers and technicians from all over the world. With the ideal weather and climate conditions, the XAO sites are perfect for testing cutting edge technologies. We have to spare no efforts on the development of XAO.
